Curriculum News

Class 1:

Our rocket is well and truly finished. We have absolutely thrived off this role play opportunity this week! The moon is a popular destination and we enjoyed learning about the different Sea Zones of the moon off the back of the interest expressed in this area of our topic. Meanwhile, in Literacy Year 1 and 2 have started writing some wonderful descriptive pieces on journeys up to space. End results look to be extremely promising (and gripping!). We can’t wait for our trip to We The Curious on Monday. Don’t forget a little rucksack with a snack and lunch in it – star gazing in the planetarium is hungry work!

We will be leaving at 8.40 am so please make sure your child is in school in plenty of time to board the minibus.  We aim to be back in school for normal home time but if we are running late due to traffic a text will be sent out.

Gym Festival at Hanley Castle Tuesday 28th January:  A reminder thatReception and Year 1 pupils will be need to be dropped at Hanley Castle High School at 8.45 am where they will be met by a member of staff.  They will need to be in their PE kit and have an appropriate snack and drink for the morning.  We will return to school by coach in time for lunch.

Class 2:

Year 3/ 4 Do Something Different morning at Hanley Castle High School: Year 3 and 4 enjoyed a trip to ‘do something different’ on Tuesday morning at Hanley Castle.  A big well done and thank you to the children who certainly demonstrated Pride in Pendock throughout.  The event enabled the children to continue to build relationships with the pupils from the other cluster schools whilst participating in sports and activities that they might not have tried before.  Firm favourites included trampolining, tchoukball, table tennis, seated volleyball and handball.  The children welcomed the opportunity to work with the Hanley Castle Young Leaders and it was wonderful to see former Pendock pupils who have taken on the role.

Year 6 Guided Reading:  This week’s homework isa poetry reading comprehension ‘The Way Through the Woods.’  If you have any questions about the work please come and see Ms White before next Wednesday when it is due in.

Menus:  These are enclosed for the 4 week period to 6th March.  Please look over them with your child and return them on Monday.  Payment for Nursery (£2 only per meal) and Key Stage 2 pupils (£2.30 per meal) should be made via Payments4Schools.

Family First Magazine: We have been given the opportunity for all our families to access Family First Magazine.  Do have a look online – it has lots of ideas to keep active as a family and plenty of healthy recipes.

Here is your free e-copy of Family First, the UK’s largest family title – Enjoy

Look At The Book:  Dates for this term are – 7th February, 6th March and 20th March.

Volunteer Appeal:  If there is anyone else who might be able to help as a parent volunteer with After School Care Club, either on a regular or a casual basis to cover someone else, then please let Ms Curnow know.  All volunteers in school would need to have an Enhanced DBS check, which we will arrange.

Messy Church:  Advance notice that this will be happening in the school hall 4.00 – 5.00 pm on Saturday 14th March.  All activities and refreshments are free but parents need to stay with their children.  Rev Julie would love some adult helpers to run an activity (all necessary materials supplied) or serve refreshments.  If you could help please let her know or pass a message on via the school office.

School Bikes and Trikes:  Please could we ask parents to make sure their children do not ‘help themselves’ to Early Years’ bikes and trikes at home time as these are being left out all over the playground which risks damage to them.

Friends’ News:  We have a Jumble Sale planned for 2.00 – 4.00 pm on Saturday 8th February.  If you can help, please sign up on the sheet at the back door.

Hopefully you cannot have failed to notice that the Spring Chicken Run is happening on 22nd March!  Please let us know if you can volunteer on the day – we need plenty of people for all roles and this really important fundraising event could not happen without you J.  Nearer the time we will be asking for donations of chocolate and hens’ (etc!) eggs but if you want to get ahead of the game, some supermarkets have offers on them now.  If anyone has any links with businesses who might be able to supply or sponsor items to go in the finishers’ goody bags, please let us know.  Usual ideas include healthy snacks, drinks, vouchers for sports related equipment and services etc.

Best wishes

Mrs Gilroy and the staff team
