Dear Parents and Carers

Menus:  These are enclosed for the first four weeks of the new term.  Please look over them with your child and return them on Monday 16th December so we have time to plan and order ingredients for the start of term.

Curriculum News

Class 1

Class 1 have written to Santa this week, in amongst a lot of whole school activities such as prop making, play rehearsals, making Christingles and our pantomime trip.  We’ve made some Christmas surprises for people we love, too – enjoying lots of hand painting.  Christmas has also infiltrated our ICT, when we explored Elf Yourself at snack time…..definitely one to have a giggle at at home!

Class 2

Class 2 have been very busy this week! One of the many highlights was a trip to the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford on Thursday. The children had an opportunity to explore the many levels of human history and were then guided around the incredible Egyptian collection. Open sarcophaguses, authentic temples, mummified crocodiles and many other incredible artefacts were on show that the children got to see and touch. Every pupil demonstrated their knowledge of the subject and all were exceptionally behaved – as was noted by our guide. Well done Class 2!

Year 6 Guided Reading:  It’s the famous ‘Design a Chocolate Bar’ homework.  Details have been provided in school and you can present your bar design however you like!  You have all Christmas to think of great taste combinations and don’t forget all of your senses: mouth feel, smell and texture are important.  Due Wednesday 8th January

Year 5 & 6 Residential 23rd-25th March: If you have not already done so, please return the consent form and the £50 first instalment for this.  We need to confirm final numbers with the venue very soon so if you have any questions or concerns please talk to Mrs Gilroy.

Payments to School: A reminder that from the beginning of next term we will no longer be able to accept cash and cheques and so all payments will need to be made via the Payments4Schools website.  We are aware that many of the new families who have joined us recently or who are joining us straight after Christmas will not have received their log in details for this yet.  Unfortunately there is a time lag in issuing the PINs which is beyond our control but they should be available about a week after term begins and you will be able to use the website from then. If anyone else needs to be reminded of their PIN or the instructions for using the website then please ask Ms Curnow.

Instrumental Tuition:  Apart from a ‘catch up’ session for Mrs Virgo’s pupils on Monday, Severn Arts tuition has finished for the term.  Instrumental tuition will begin again the first week back although Monday is a TED so guitar and cornet will have their first sessions on 13th January but will carry on a week later than the other instruments to make up the time. Please make sure your child has their instrument in school on appropriate day: Mondays for guitar and cornet and Tuesdays for violin and cello.  If you have already asked Ms Curnow for your child to start lessons in the Spring term then you are booked in.  Your first term will be funded by FOPS.  Invoices for all other continuing pupils will go out in the new term.

Christingle Candles:  Please can you return your collection candles by Wednesday 18th December so that they can be collected by The Children’s Society.

Nativity Performances:  A reminder that our ‘Children of the World’ performances will be on Monday 16th at 1.30 pm (Dress Rehearsal) and Tuesday 17th December at 2.00 pm and 6.00 pm.  Please sign up on the lists at the Parent Information Point so we know how many chairs to put out!

You are also very welcome to join us for our Christmas Service at Pendock Cross Church at 11.00 am on Thursday 19th December.

Nativity Performance Costumes:  Theseneed to be in school and complete on Monday morning without fail, as our dress rehearsal is that day!

Mrs Evans:  Mrs Evans will be returning to Pendock Primary working 3 days a week after Christmas.  These days will predominantly be spent working alongside Class 2 supporting smaller teaching groups.  She will also return to her role as SENCO.  We look forward to welcoming her back to school again!  Miss Hayles will continue to work with Class 1 after Christmas.

Teaching Assistant Vacancy:  A correction to last week’s website link– the details for this job can be seen at https://www.wmjobs.co.uk/searchjobs/?LocationId=1415770&radialtown=GL19+3AZ%2c+Gloucester&countrycode=GB If you know anyone who might be interested please point them in that direction.

Have a good weekend.
