29 November 2019 Newsletter 12
Dear Parents and Carers
Mad Science: We were delighted to welcome Mad Science to Pendock who were amazing! The children witnessed many fantastic experiments – one of the firm favourites was Santa being ‘pulled’ through the chimney!
This week we have enjoyed making our own Magical Me Milkshakes! The children were all really brave trying new things. We are part way through writing Healthy Eating leaflets which will soon appear in reception….perfect timing for Christmas! Our Santa’s grotto workshop is also up and running and we look forward to a week or two of role play present wrapping and North Pole acting.
We would like to make a plea for a toy koala to come and join us in Class 1 for a few weeks. Also, if you have any spare deely boppers at home that you do not mind being altered then please can you bring them in? Many thanks.
Christmas Party: Our Early Years Christmas Party will be from 1.45 pm on Friday 6th December. Class 1 can bring in Christmassy head wear for the party. Any toddlers or prospective Reception children for next year are very welcome to join us, with their carers, so if you know anyone do please invite them. Parents of current pupils are welcome to stay and play from 2.15 onwards.
Class 2 have been continuing to learn about the body and how it moves. They enjoyed a bone scavenger hunt today to construct and label their skeleton. Fabulous team work was demonstrated.
Oxford Ashmolean Trip 12th December: If you have not yet sent back your consent form please do so as soon as possible. A reminder that pupils will need a packed lunch (if not already booked through school), drinks, snacks and a small rucksack to carry these.
Year 6 Guided Reading: Write a newspaper report about Captain Scott’s expedition. Remember the features of a newspaper article and include them in your work. Due for Wednesday 4th December.
Voluntary Contributions: Outside providers and trips are instrumental to enabling the children of Pendock to encounter different experiences and opportunities. Whenever booking activities in to the school diary, we always do it with the wider curriculum in mind so that it supports and extends our children’s current learning. We subsidise the costs of these through our school budget and sometimes will ask parents for a voluntary contribution as well. We recognise that under the Education Reform Act 1988 we can only ask for these to be genuinely voluntary contributions but, as you can imagine, the higher the numbers that don’t contribute will cause us to be able to provide fewer opportunities in the future. As ever we are thankful for your support in everything we do.
If you think you might be eligible to claim Free School Meals (please see the guidance at http://www.worcestershire.gov.uk/info/20062/schools/684/applying_for_free_school_meals) this will mean the school can access extra funding which can be used towards trips, music tuition and support for your child. It is therefore definitely worth doing even if your child is in Key Stage 1 and currently receives Universal Infant Free School Meals.
Christmas Jumper Day: Christmas Jumper Day will take place on Friday 13th December. In an attempt to the reduce cost and environmental impact of “wear once” clothing, we invite you to bring in any old Christmas Jumpers which your child(ren) have outgrown. We will try to establish a box of donated jumpers in the foyer so children might find the next size up to see them through this Christmas….first come first served!
Nativity Performance: This year we will have one evening Nativity performance at 6.00 pm on Tuesday 17th December and we hope to see as many of you there as possible. As people have many evening commitments at this time of year we felt that doing one performance would put less pressure on families. We also have a dress rehearsal at 1.30 pm on Monday 16th and we would also warmly welcome an audience for this!
Instrumental Tuition: In the past week several people have said they would like their children to start instrumental tuition after Christmas. If anyone else is interested, please talk to Ms Curnow so she knows how much time to book! We currently offer guitar, keyboard, violin and cornet. If your child has not previously had instrumental lessons at this school then FOPS will fund the first term as a taster session.
Sickeness: Some local primary schools are experiencing and nasty sickness bug at the moment. Please can I remind you that children should not come back to school until 48 hours have passed since their last incidence of vomiting or diarrhoea. Thank you.
Flu Immunisations: Please return your blue form if you have not done so already. If you do not want to take up the immunisation it is still helpful if you return it so that we know you have seen it and we do not need to chase you.
Look at the Book: There will be no session on Friday 6th December.
Brigade School Uniform: If you need to order any new school uniform then Brigade our uniform supplier is offering a 20% discount on all orders placed during their Black Friday event from 29th November to 2nd December. Please visit www.brigade.uk.com, select the correct school and place your order using the promotional code: BCBLACK19. You can also register with Brigade via http://eepurl.com/WIbln to ensure you don’t miss out on any future offers and promotions.
Tempest Photographs: The online orders have arrived at school and should have come home with your children today. The paper orders take a little longer and should be here early next week.
Have a good weekend.
