Curriculum News

Class 1

In Class 1, EYFS have been thinking about estimation this week. We have made an Estimation Station using natural resources for everyone in the School to have a go at (parents too if you fancy it – it’s outside Mrs Gilroy’s office!). We are really enjoying our Maths lessons outside. We will soon be needing gloves and hats please!

Class 2

Year 6 Guided Reading:  Based on your knowledge of the book, please draw a picture of Beowulf.

They may look eerie at the moment, but after the application of gold paint, these death masks will adorn our fallen Pharaoh.  Class 2 have been continuing their discovery of ancient Egypt, including reading Secrets of a Sun King together and thinking about how authors create powerful character descriptions.

Blue Peter Badges:  There is an opportunity for our pupils to apply for a Blue Peter Music Badge which allows free admissions to many UK attractions – see https://www.bbc.co.uk/cbbc/attractions We are offering pupils the chance to do this through their FAME clarinet lessons.  If your child would like to bid for a Blue Peter Badge then they need to fill in the attached form and send it back to school.   We also need a photo of them playing their instrument but not in school uniform so we plan to do this in school on Thursday 24th October when we are all wearing pink for Breast Cancer Awareness.  If the form is not back in by then then we will not be able to send it off.  We are happy to co ordinate and submit entries.  The minimum age for this is 6 so if any Year 2 pupils, who will not be part of the FAME project, want to take part please speak to Miss Hayles or Mrs Gilroy.

Whole School Forest School:  On the afternoon of Wednesday 16th, all children will be taking part in forest school. Class 2 are invited to bring in a change of clothes (long legs and sleeves), waterproof coats, wellies and any other warm weather accessories (gloves, hats). Class 1 will remain in uniform, wearing the waterproof overalls provided by school as usual, but also requiring wellies, waterproofs etc as usual please. Thanks in advance for your support.

After School Care Club:  Booking forms are attached for the second half of term.  Spares are available in the yellow folder at the Parent Information Point.  It is helpful to our planning if sessions can be booked and paid for in advance but we will aim to be flexible if extra sessions are needed.

Informing the School of Illness, Changes to Pick Ups etc:  We would like to remind you that unfortunately we suffer frequent internet outages here and emails about sickness, changes to pick up arrangements, appointments and other matters are not guaranteed to reach us in time.  Please phone instead as this is more reliable.  You can always leave a message on the answerphone if necessary.

Look at the Book: The next session will be on Friday 18th October at 2.45 pm for all years.

Parents’ Evenings:  Sign up sheets will be going up next week for these at the Parent Information Point.

Wider Community:  If you have not yet seen the news on social media, the Hand in Hand for Oscar appeal has reached its target.  Thank you to everyone connected with the school for helping to achieve this and our thoughts and best wishes are with the family.

We look forward to seeing some of you at the Curry and Quiz tonight.  Good luck!!

Have a good weekend.

Mrs Gilroy and the staff team
