27 September 2019 Newsletter 4
Dear Parents and Carers
Information Evening: Thank you to everyone who came to this on Tuesday – it was lovely to see so many faces. If you were unable to attend this time and would be interested in coming to another one please let us know whether a different day or time would suit you better or if you have any other comments, as we want to make these events as inclusive as possible.
Celebrations: Thank you to everyone who joined us this week for Celebration Assembly.
Our star of the week awards this week go to:
Class 1 – Austin
Class 2 – Daisy M
Playground – Jack
After School Care Club Star – Freya
Payments to School: In common with many Worcestershire schools, we will be ‘going cashless’ after Christmas. We will no longer be accepting cash or cheques for amounts owed to school and all payments should instead be made online. We hope that giving families this amount of notice will enable those who do not already use it to familiarise themselves with the Payments4Schools website and iron out any problems. If you need any help with this or reminding of your PIN please speak to Ms Curnow. We appreciate that this may cause some families initial inconvenience but it has been a necessary move in order to cut down on the disproportionate amount of administrative time spent on dealing with cash and cheques.
After School Activity Clubs: These will begin next week. If your child wants to participate and you have not returned the form please do so first thing on Monday. Please note, however, that Running Club will not be taking place on Wednesday 2nd October. Children attending Forest School Club on Thursdays will need a waterproof, change of clothes and wellies in school for each session. Please also send in other clothing appropriate to the weather (hats, gloves, waterproof trousers) as the weather begins to close in!
Look at the Book Reminder: Parents of pupils in both classes are very welcome to come in on the following Fridays at 2.45 pm – 11th Oct, 18th Oct, 15th Nov and 22nd Nov.
We have had a glorious week in Class 1. We kicked off with a trip to Berkeley Castle, enjoying beautiful weather whilst we explored the moat and gardens. We then had a tour inside the castle looking at the features we have been learning of in class – the dungeons looked very damp and miserable! We also visited Tewkesbury Fields Care home to support Art in Care Homes week, where we made some lovely leaves to add to their Art Tree Display. Class 1 have behaved impeccably on both of our trips and represented Pendock fantastically. Thank you to the children! Please see the report attached by a member of Class 1.
Year 6 Guided Reading: This week draw a comic strip using the information you have discovered from page 22 of Beowulf. You have a photocopy so feel free to highlight or underline any words or phrases you find useful. You need to show the sequence of events and the interior of the mead hall. Due date: Wednesday 2nd October
This week, many of the children in Class 2 have been working on their rounding skills. They have been learning about when rounding is appropriate, and how it can help to communicate numbers to different audiences.
We are about to start making our own Canopic jars. Please can you have a look at home for small pots with lids for this Egyptian activity – for example, small Pringle tubes or large ones that could be cut down or larger yoghurt, custard or cream pots. If you don’t have any with lids, a cylinder shaped pot will be fine. Thank you.
Year 5 & 6 Cross Country Tournament: On Friday 11th October pupils in Years 5 & 6 will be travelling by coach to Malvern Common during school time to take part in this event. Please sign and return the attached slip. Pupils will need a packed lunch and drinks and snacks for the day, appropriate running trainers, PE kit to run in and warm / waterproof clothing to wear between races. A bin bag to sit on if the ground is wet and to store dry clothing in is also recommended.
Community Links: Thank you to everyone for supporting the ‘Wear Red for Oscar Day’ and for your donations and hamper raffle prizes. Money can still be donated by visiting https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com and searching ‘Hand in Hand for Oscar’ or by texting 5OSCAR 5, 5OSCAR 10 OR 5OSCAR 20 to 70085.
Finally, does anyone have any rakes at home they could spare for while? We would be grateful if we could borrow them so that Class 2 can help re-establish the Conservation Area. Please bring them in to school next week (labelled with the family name might be a good idea!)
Have a good weekend.
Mrs Gilroy and the staff team
