20 September 2019 Newsletter 3
Dear Parents and Carers
Menus: These are attached for the period ended 25th October. Please look over them with your child and return them with payment, if appropriate, on Monday. When completing them, remember that Years 5 and 6 will be going to a Cross Country event on 11th October and will need a packed lunch that day.
Celebrations: Thank you to everyone who joined us this week for Celebration Assembly.
Well done to William M who shared his achievements from outside of school.
Our star of the week awards this week go to:
Class 1 – Aneira
Class 2 – Evie
Playground – Robin
Top Table – Ed, Will G, Alfie, Callum, Ethan and Bailey.
Well done to Emily who received the After School Care Club Star – it is lovely to see the PRIDE values being demonstrated outside of school hours.
Also, a massive well done to our footballers who represented Pendock fantastically on Tuesday night at Hanley Castle High School in the Y5/6 Football Tournament. We were impressed with your determination and sportsmanship that you demonstrated throughout the afternoon. Well done Luke, Lucie, Will G, Cian, Zak, Louis, Tom, Robin, Oli and William M.
Data and Photo Consent Forms: Copies are enclosed if you have not already returned these. Please do so as soon as possible as it is important that our information is up to date. Please also return the Home School Agreement if you have not done so already.
Tuesday 24th September: A reminder that we are waiving the charge for After School Care Club on this evening to help everyone who wants to attend the Information Evening at 5.00 pm and the FOPS AGM at 6.00 pm. If you would like to take advantage of this please let the office know on Monday morning at the latest, so we know how many to cater for!
Class 1 were visited by a real wizard from Worcestershire Wildlife Trust this week. We learnt all about how to preserve and grow acorns. One of the children explained afterwards that she learnt how to “work with your coven, realise the nature around you and protect the forest.” Wise words indeed! The castle is making slow steady progress – we are waiting for some inspiration from our castle trip on Monday to stylise it further!
Trips Next Week: If you have not already brought in the forms for the Berkeley Castle trip on Monday or the Tewkesbury Fields trip on Tuesday please do so first thing on Monday.
Year 6 Guided Reading: Thank you for the lovely research you did about the Anglo Saxon Mead Hall. This week I would like you to find out about Denmark. Where it is and particularly the Angles and Jutes of old Denmark! Present your findings however you would like on Wednesday 25th September.
Class 2 have been continuing their project on the Epic Egyptians. This week, they looked at the Nile (including the Aswan dam) and the many gods of the ancient Egyptians. After looking at the reasons for needing a dam, pupils created their own river-halting structures and tested them in the water run.
Year 5 and 6 Homework: In preparation for writing next week (Monday), please finish off any Egyptian research you need for your non-chronological report. Remember to think carefully about the subject you want to write about and the sub-headings you will need.
FAME: Class 2 have begun learning clarinet this week under the FAME service from Severn Arts. This will continue for the first half of this academic year. Pupils will be able to take instruments home to practise but please read the enclosed guidance and sign and return the letter.
Swimming Lessons: These will start again for all years from Thursday 26th September. We are asking for a voluntary contribution of £20 towards transport costs. Please see the bottom of the Activity Clubs forms.
European Day of Languages 26th September: To celebrate this day Aston University are holding a Poster Competition. Full details can be found at https://www.routesintolanguages.ac.uk/events/european-day-languages-poster-competition-5 but in brief, the poster must be no bigger than A4 and tell us which country it is about and some facts e.g. language spoken, food, music, famous landmarks etc. – the more the better! Some English can be used (eg a translation of the ‘facts’) but the poster should be mainly in a foreign language of your choice. Please see the website for full rules and conditions. School are happy to collate and submit entries but please get them in to the office by Monday 7th October.
Look at the Book: Parents of pupils in both classes are very welcome to come in on the following Fridays at 2.45 pm – 27th Sept, 11th Oct, 18th Oct, 15th Nov and 22nd Nov. You can look at your child’s books and have a chat to them about the fantastic work they have been doing.
After School Activity Clubs: These will begin the week commencing 30th September and run for 8 weeks until the end of November. Please see the attached sheet and sign up if your child is interested. If any parent is available to help with running club on a Wednesday then we will be able to take pupils out of school grounds; please see Mrs Gilroy.
Toys in School: If pupils in either class wish to bring toys into school please make sure these are small and are brought in at your own risk. The school cannot take responsibility if they go missing.
Community Links: You will no doubt have seen on social media that the family of Pitmaston student Oscar Saxelby-Lee have launched an urgent appeal to fund further treatment. We are supporting this with a ‘Wear Red for Oscar’ day on 27th September. Donations can be made by visiting https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com and searching ‘Hand in Hand for Oscar’ or by texting 5OSCAR 5, 5OSCAR 10 OR 5OSCAR 20 to 70085. In addition, if you have an item that can be donated for a hamper, please bring it into school. This will be a prize at a fundraising bingo night on 27th September starting at 7pm at Bromesberrow Village Hall.
MacMillan Coffee Morning: This will be taking place at Pendock Cross Church from 10.30 – 12.30 on Friday 27th September.
Have a good weekend.
Mrs Gilroy and the staff team
