Dear Parents and Carers

Class 1 News

Story Sacks: Class 1 pupils are taking home sacks today with a return date of Tuesday 20th November.

Class 2 News

Year 6 Guided Reading:  In Beowulf, a boat with warriors in it has arrived on the Danish shore. Describe in your own words, in detail, what the watchman on horseback saw. You may illustrate your answer.  Also, see if you can find any new collective nouns for animals. We have a flock of sheep, a herd of cows and a parliament of rooks!  Due for Wednesday.

Year 5 & 6 Residential Trip:  If your child is in these years, a letter is attached giving further details about our Spring 2019 Residential trip.

Whole School Homework:  Prepare five questions to ask our visitors on Wednesday.  Topics to think about are: home, village and school life; jobs and farming; fields and countryside; food and wartime experiences.

Gym Festival at HCHS 13th November:  We will be taking all children in Class 1, plus Year 3, to a Gymnastics Festival at Hanley Castle High School next Tuesday (morning only).  Please make sure these pupils all arrive in their PE kit that day.  A slip is attached; please sign and return this on Monday.  Please note that pupils will need to be in school promptly at 8.30 am in order to board the coach.

Parents’ Evenings: A reminder that these will be on Monday and Tuesday next week (details below).  There are a few slots left if you have not already signed up.

Art Project Unveiling:  Thank you to everyone who was able to come to the Grand Unveiling and Remembrance Service today.  And a very special thank you to all those who kindly gave their time and expertise to help it all come together at the eleventh hour!

Oral History Project Memory Sharing Morning – Wednesday 14th November:  Thank you to everyone who has offered to be interviewed by the children on Wednesday morning.  If you are staying for lunch, please let Ms Curnow know asap for catering numbers.  In the afternoon, we are very excited to welcome playwrite John Townsend who will be working with our pupils on a play based around these memories.

Christmas Shoebox Appeal Many thanks to the families who returned full shoeboxes to school this week.

Children in Need Rickshaw Challenge:  As you will see from the attached Friends’ News, this will be passing along the B4208 after school next Tuesday afternoon.  If your child is in After School Care or Dance Club, and you would like them to walk down and see it accompanied by a member of staff, please sign the attached permission slip; this is not covered by our existing ‘Walking in the Local Area’ permissions as it will be out of normal school time.
