19 October 2018 Newsletter 7
Dear Parents and Carers
Menus: These are attached for the 4 weeks following half term. Please complete and return them on Monday with payment if appropriate.
Class 1 News
Weekly Plans: We will now be having ‘Woodland Wednesdays’ (please make sure appropriate Forest School clothing is in school) and PE will be on a Friday.
Homework: During Woodland Wednesday this week, we went bug hunting. We found lots of spiders of different sizes and a tiny caterpillar. For Homework this week conduct a bug hunt at home and record what you find ready to share on Wednesday. You could record it as a table or perhaps a picture. Record where your bug hunt takes place, especially if you do more than one, so we can compare what was found where. For example our hunts in school this week were focused on the hedgerows and willow fence areas.
Class 2 News
Year 6 Guided Reading: If you were interviewing a Warrior to find and kill the sea monster, Grendel, what questions would you ask them and what attributes would you be looking for? Present your homework in your own way: due in for next Wednesday.
Homework: Mr Greenbank has attached some additional homework for some Year 6 students. Some Class 2 children also have pictures to finish for the Harvest Service. Please can they do this at home and return them by Wednesday.
Jumble Sale: Please do not forget to come along to the Jumble Sale tomorrow! We welcome donations of jumble and cakes between 1.00 – 2.00 pm tomorrow. The sale itself starts at 2.00 pm.
Wendy will be having a final clearance nearly new uniform stall at the jumble sale; after this she will only be carrying a stock of pre-loved clothing with the school logo, due to storage constraints. Make sure you take this opportunity to bag a bargain!
Design a Christmas Card / Mug: Thank you to those who have already returned these. If you have not already done so, the deadline is Monday 22nd October as we need to send them off.
Open Mornings: We were delighted to have such a well attended Open Morning on Wednesday and a very big thank you to those parents who offered their time to help. Two more Open Mornings are planned for Monday 22nd October and Thursday 8th November. If you know anyone with pre-school children – or anyone who might otherwise be interested in the school – please let them know they would be welcome to attend.
Harvest Service: Next Friday morning (26th October) at 9.00 am we will be holding our Harvest Service in school, which will be led by our Worship Committee. Parents and carers and very welcome to attend. We are collecting items for the Food Bank – non-perishable food items that are still well within their ‘best before’ date and household items like toiletries and cleaning products are also appreciated.
Instrumental Tuition: Invoices are attached for violin or keyboard for the Autumn Term. If your child would like to start having lessons next term, please speak to Ms Curnow. Pupils who have not previously had instrumental tuition at this school can have a ‘taster’ term funded by FOPS.
After School Care Club: Having reviewed the demand for this provision over the first half of term, we have decided to continue this for the second half. However, in order to make this service financially viable it will be necessary to increase the price of the provision until 5.30 pm to £8.80 per child per session. We have maintained the first hour at £1 per child per session. The cost is directly related to the demand for the service and if more parents book onto it, the costs will come down; this will be reviewed again at the beginning of next term. Booking forms for the second half of this term are attached and spare copies will be in the file at the Parent Information Point. Ms Curnow will be contacting current parent volunteers to check their availability but if anyone else is available and would like to join the rota please speak to her. You will need to apply for Enhanced DBS clearance if you do not already have this.
Milk in School: The School Food Plan legislation states that children of all ages should have the opportunity to access milk during the school day. Our school milk scheme is administered by Cool Milk. If you would like to register your child, please visit https://www.coolmilk.com/register
School Photographs: Tempest Photography were due to visit us on Monday 5th November but have had to reschedule to Thursday 22nd November. As long as orders are returned promptly, the photographs will still be back in time to make wonderful Christmas presents!
