14 September 2018 Newsletter 2
Dear Parents and Carers
Class 1 News
Homework: Your challenge this week is to learn your home address by next Friday.
Class 2 News
Homework: Prepare School Council speeches or, if you are not standing as a candidate, make a list of the qualities you would like to see in a School Councillor.
FAME Music Project: Next Friday afternoon we will begin our FAME music project which will continue until Spring half term. This time we are forming a string band which sounds very exciting! Individual letters will go out next week when instruments have been allocated.
Data Collection Sheets: We have enclosed the information we currently hold on your child and would be grateful if you could check and return this, amending where necessary. If you include emergency contact details of other friends / family we assume for the purposes of GDPR compliance that you have obtained permission to do so and informed them that their details will be held on our database for this purpose.
You are reminded that when your child joined the school you signed various consents for walking in the local area, medical and dental treatment, photographic consent, home school agreement, food tasting, swimming goggles, and computer / internet use agreement. We will assume that your consent for these in ongoing but if at any time you want to amend or withdraw these please contact the office.
School Calendar Consents: Slips were sent out earlier this week to obtain permission for children’s photographs to be used (with no name) for the school calendar which is sold as a fundraiser at the Christmas Fayre. If you have not already done so, please return this slip by next Wednesday at the latest, after which time we will assume that you do not give consent for your child to be included. The calendar team are keen to get on and take their photos!
Payments4Schools Login Details: If your child has joined the school relatively recently and you have not already been able to access this system, instructions and PINs are enclosed. If anyone else needs reminding of their PINs, please speak to Ms Curnow.
Whole School Trip to ‘Operation Bible’ on Tuesday 18th September: Next Tuesday we will be travelling by coach to Tewkesbury Baptist Church during school time to see a play based on Jesus’ miracles. Please sign and return the attached slip. We are asking for a voluntary contribution of £2 towards transport.
Whole School Trip to Hardwick Meadows on Monday 24th September: As part of our local history topic working in conjunction with Worcestershire Wildlife Trust we are visiting Hardwick Meadows nature reserve. This will be a whole day trip where we will also be joining children from Eldersfield Primary School for some fun activities and talks led by the Wildlife Trust. If you have not already booked a school picnic lunch for your child that day, make sure they have a packed lunch to take. Children will also need drinks, snacks, a small rucksack to carry them in and waterproofs if appropriate. They can wear sensible, non school uniform and shoes appropriate to the weather, bearing in mind these may get dirty! Please sign and return the attached slip. While the cost of the coach is being funded, we are collecting donations to be passed on to the Wildlife Trust to defray some of their costs in working with us on this project.
After School Clubs: Activity Clubs will begin again the week commencing 24th September. A sign up sheet is attached. Please note that, unless you have already booked and paid for after school care for the 3.15 – 4.15 pm slot, there will be a charge of £1 per club.
When collecting children after 3.15 pm in future please come to the the hall door by the car park.
Instrumental Tuition: Severn Arts lessons will be on a Monday morning instead of a Wednesday from now on. Please make sure your child has their instrument in school if appropriate.
Parent Volunteers: We are looking for parent helpers to assist with swimming, to help with changing and occasionally supporting in the water. If you can help occasionally or more regularly please speak to Mrs Evans.
We are thrilled that Clare Blackmore has offered to volunteer in school on a regular basis. Her role will include maths interventions and supporting reading skills. If you would also like to support in any way please let us know.
Mrs Stockwell: After 18 years of dedicated service to Pendock CE Primary Mrs Stockwell will be leaving her post next month. Rachel has been an asset to the school, not only in teaching groups of children with great care but also sharing her love of gardening. Over the years she has worked as a Teaching Assistant, School Cook, Breakfast Club and Lunchtime Supervisor; she has also supported in swimming and has maintained the Millenium Garden. Her skills and warm personality will be very much missed.
To mark her leaving we will be holding an event in the daytime of Friday 5th October. Further details to follow in due course.
FOPS AGM: Thank you to everyone who attended. We have a new committee as follows: Chair – Steph Grainger, Vice Chair – Ros Cale, Treasurer – Sarah Rowe, Secretaries – Suzanne Massey and Tracy Thomas.
