Dear Parents and Carers
Class 1 News
Homework: Year 1 and 2 will be Big Writing next week so over the weekend we would like them to perform their story to as many family members / friends / pets / toys as possible to help them to prepare. A copy of their story map is in their book bags. Reception have been working on colours; please bring something in:
- Monday – green
- Tuesday – yellow
- Wednesday – orange
- Thursday – blue
- Friday – pink
Reception Phonics (Mrs Bates’ Group): Sounds for next week:
- Monday – f or ff as in fish or fluff
- Tuesday – l or ll as in lego or bell
- Thursday – ss as in dress
- No session on Wednesday due to Early Years’ Day.
Story Sacks: Year 2 sacks are due in by TUESDAY 17TH OCTOBER. Please return them promptly to the area behind the door in the library.
Early Years’ Day: A reminder that next Wednesday we will be joined by pupils from other local schools and pre-schools for activities based around Diwali, with dance and crafts. There will be face painting involved (using the same materials as on the Hinduism workshop) so a permission slip is attached. As Class 2 pupils will be doing the face painting and may decide they want theirs done as well, we are including a permission slip for all year groups. We are asking for a voluntary contribution of £2 towards the day’s activities (from Class 1 pupils only).
Class 2 News
Homework: All pupils should practice the Clic sheets that have already been sent home. Year 5 & 6 should also create a written list of definitions for their spellings, ready to be shared on Wednesday 18th October.
Year 6 Reading Group Homework: Chapter 2 of Beowulf is titled ‘The Danish Shore’. Research the terrain of Denmark’s coast, particularly ‘fjords’. Do they have them? What do they look like? Present your work as a non-chronological report.
Payments for Lunches to 29th September: There are still some payments outstanding, which we are sure are simply oversights as we sent out the menus before the end of Summer term but said you could pay at the beginning of Autumn term if preferred. If you still have amounts owing for this period, a reminder slip is attached. These slips only include amounts outstanding for the 4 weeks to 29th September and do include any extra meals your child has during this period that were not booked or paid for at the time.
Change to Menu on 18th October: If you want to change your child’s lunch order for next Wednesday (it will be butter chicken or vegetable curry instead of hot dogs) we need to know this first thing on Monday at the latest.
Harvest Festival: We will be having a special assembly in school on Friday 20th October at 8.50 am. Parents, carers and others are very welcome to join us for this. It will also be a chance to have a look at your child’s finished Hindu shrine. We will be collecting donations of dried or tinned goods that have a long expiry date; these will be taken to a local food bank.
Open Day Events: We will be holding these from 9.00 – 10.00 am and 6.00 – 7.00 pm on Thursday 2nd November. If you know any families whose children will be starting school in the next couple of years or who might otherwise have an interest in our school please extend a warm welcome to them. Current parents are also very welcome to come in and view the school at work.
Text Messaging Service: Another test message was sent out on Tuesday. If you did not get this please let us know as we may have an out of date mobile number for you.
Worcestershire Symphony Orchestra Does Strictly: If you might be interested in this concert on Saturday 4th November in Worcester, see the posters at the Parent Information Point or outside school for details.
Dog Fouling: Unfortunately this has been a problem recently particularly along the pavement opposite the Netherley Lane turning. Malvern Hills District Council have put up new signs and their Dog Warden will be monitoring the situation but please watch where you step!
FOPS News: The next meeting will be at 3.30 pm on Tuesday 31st October to continue planning the Christmas Fayre. All parents / carers are welcome. There will be another Bags2School collection on 20th November – details to go out soon but get saving those clothes!
