The new topic for Class 1 this term is Islam. Class 1 have turned their role play area into a Muslim home and are learning about the Islamic faith and day to day living of a Muslim family.
They were excited to unpack the resources box and enjoyed dressing in traditional Islamic clothes.
The children have learned about performing ‘wudu’, a ritual washing carried out before prayer. They also created their own prayer mats.
A spectacular mosque was built with block play. The children were fascinated to see a copy of the Koran written in Arabic.
To continue their topic on Islam Class 1 have been learning about the festival of Eid that is celebrated at the end of the month of Ramadan. They learned how Muslims have a ritual of washing, how the Koran is read and about the celebration and feast that is held.
Class 1 have created some beautiful and detailed pictures of a mosque using split peas, lentils and pasta.
For several weeks Class 1 have been working hard to each produce an information book containing all they have learnt during their Islam topic. The books are very informative and contain pictures, diagrams, photographs and beautiful hand written pages.
