Paralympics Visitors

Following on from Dina's visit when she told us about her volunteer role at the Rio paralympics, we welcomed another visitor, paralympian Lee Greatbatch. Lee was a part of the blind football team at the Beijing Paralympics in 2008. Lee gave an introduction to the beginnings of the paralympics, he also spoke of his experiences as a blind footballer. He brought a football that a blind football team would use; it rattles so that the players know where about it is on the pitch. Class 1 tried this out later in the day during their PE lesson. It wasn't as easy as they thought!
Lee has recently taken up running and this is where his main interest now lies. He has recently completed his first half marathon and with the help of Mrs Evans demonstrated how blind runners rely on their guide runner to keep them safe as they run. He brought his medals and souvenirs to share with the children.
Once Lee had shared his experiences he took questions from the children. It was clear from the children's reaction to Lee, particularly some of our footballers, that they found his willingness to tackle his difficulties both a challenge and an inspiration.
