Dear Parents and Carers

Welcome back to everyone after the break.  We hope you all enjoyed Christmas and New Year.

Class 1 News

Reception Homework:  Practise reading your tricky words and your CLIC challenge

Year 1 & 2 Homework:  Practise telling your story from your story map over the weekend.

Mrs Evans’ Phonics Group:  Keep practising your spellings for Monday.

Story Sacks:  Year R are taking sacks home today.  These should be returned on TUESDAY 14TH JANUARY.

Show and Tell: This will be on a Thursday from now on.

Class 2 News

Year 3 & 4 Homework:  Make an illustration for your favourite story.  It can be a book or a film.

Year 5 & 6 Homework: In science, we have started looking at irreversible changes.  For homework, children should make note of any reversible and irreversible changes they see in and around the home.  This is for discussion with the class on Monday 8th January.

Sporting Events:  Next Friday (12th January) Year 5 and 6 will be taking part in an Indoor Athletics event at Hanley Castle High School.  We will be travelling to and from the venue by coach and return in time for lunch, but please note the departure time of 8.20 am and ensure your child is in school ready to board the coach at this time.  On Friday 19th January all of Class 2 will be attending a Gymnastics Festival at Hanley Castle High School.  We will be leaving school just after lunch and, as the event will finish after normal school time, we are asking parents to make arrangements to collect pupils from the High School at 3.45 pm.  Consent forms are attached for both these trips and we are not asking for a voluntary contribution for travel costs on this occasion.

Instrumental Tuition:  Violin and keyboard lessons will begin on Wednesday 10th January.  Please ensure violins are in school as appropriate.  Invoices for the term will be sent out next week.

Invoices:  Breakfast Club bills for the last half term are attached, as are reminders for meals owing up to 19th December (these include ‘extras’ where a meal was not pre-booked but a child did not have a packed lunch on that day).  Invoices for After School Care Club for the second half of Autumn term will be sent out next week.

Swimming:  Lessons will begin again next Thursday so please ensure your child has their kit in school.  We are asking for a voluntary contribution of £20 towards transport.  This can be paid via Payments4Schools website or the green postbox.

Reception and Year 6 Heights and Weights:  Letters went home yesterday regarding these checks which will take place in school on 24th January.  A reminder that you only need to contact us if you do not want your child to be included.

Cyber Safety Workshops:  Many children will have had electronic devices or smartphones this Christmas.  To help you to help them stay safe online Be Cyber Safe are holding two identical FREE drop-in events to help raise awareness of online safety and help you to protect your children from online bullying and harassment.
