Dear Parents and Carers

Class 1 News

Homework:  We have been learning about the Hindu festival of Diwali this week.  Hindus decorate their homes in preparation for the festival.  Explain to your family what happens before and during Diwali and create something with which to decorate the classroom.  We will be sharing this on Wednesday afternoon.

Reception Phonics (Mrs Bates’ Group):  Sounds for next week:

          Monday – u

          Tuesday –  r

          Wednesday – h

          Thursday – b

Story Sacks:  Year 2 have been given Story Sacks this week.  They need to be returned by 17th October.

Early Years’ Day:  On Wednesday 18th October we will be joined by pupils from Eldersfield and Castlemorton and pre-school children from Castlemorton Caterpillars and Countryside Day Nursery.  Activities will be based around Diwali, with dance and crafts.  A selection of Indian food will be provided for all Class 1 children for lunch that day as part of the group activities so there is no need for these children to bring in a packed lunch.  We are asking for a voluntary contribution of £2 towards the day’s activities.

 Class 2 News

Homework:  Year 3, 4 and 5 reading groups are reading The Magician’s Nephew as a whole class.  Create a picture of your favourite scene so far ready to share on Wednesday afternoon.

Year 6 Guided Reading Group Homework:  Draw a picture of Beowulf using the images you have remembered from the book.  He needs to be in the 'Mead Hall' and not in an imaginary setting!  If you have any problems please see Ms White on Monday.

West Worcestershire Cross Country Championships:  A reminder that we will be taking all Year 5 and 6 pupils to this event at Malvern College on Friday 13th October and will travel there and back by coach in school time.  Please make sure your child arrives in their PE kit on that day and has a packed lunch, plenty of suitable drinks and snacks and some appropriate clothing (waterproofs if necessary).

Change to Menu on 18th October:  As we are providing Indian food for Early Years’ Day, there will be change to the school hot lunch on that day.  Instead of hot dogs there will be a choice of either butter chicken or vegetable curry with naan or chapatti accompaniments.  Please let us know if you would like to change your child’s lunch order for this date.

After School Baking Club:  This is now set up on the ‘Payments4Schools’ menu as some people have asked to pay for this in a block.

Music Tuition:  Mrs Virgo’s lessons will be on a Tuesday morning instead of a Wednesday morning for next week only.  Please can her violin pupils make sure they bring in their instruments on the correct day.

Text Messaging Service:  This has proved a popular move with parents.  There are a few numbers which need some tweaking on our system and we will send out another test message to everyone early next week to make sure all our settings are correct.  This texts delivered via this service are for information only and we do not have the facility for parents to text back directly.

FOPS News:  A huge ‘Thank You’ to everyone who supported the Welcome Back disco.  The evening went very well and raised over £385 towards the new school kitchen project.  A special thank you to Jon Glyde for the role of DJ and providing a range of music for everyone to enjoy a boogie!

Please see attached the Chair’s report, including a financial summary, from the AGM.

The next FOPS meeting will be on Wednesday 11th October.  We will be discussing and planning the Christmas Fayre which will be on Friday 1st December 6.00 – 8.00 pm in school.
